The Golden Isles are a small archipeligo off the Southern French Mediterranean coast.
They are also known as
Les Iles Porquorolles, Les Iles d'Hyères or Les Iles d'Or.
Situated west of St Tropez and east of Marseilles in the Golfe du Lion, the journey time
from the French mainland is just under one hour by boat.
You can fly in to Toulon Airport or arrive by train.
The island group comprises three islands, the largest being Porquerolles, the other two
to the east being Port Cros and Ile du Levant. No motorised transport is permitted.
The islands have an enchanting Caribbean feel with a landscape of pine, olive, holm oak
and eucalyptus trees.
The main pursuits are the escape from the hurly burly of the Cote d'Azur, eating, drinking,
walking, swimming, snorkelling and cycling.
The recommended beach to visit is Plage de Notre-dame.
Enjoy a drink in the main square, the Place d'Armes.
